Hiring Incentives
Deputy Sheriff II lateral transfers to the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office are eligible for the following incentives:
- $12,000 Hiring Bonus

Benefits
RETIREMENT: The County participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), local Safety; 1st tier 3% @ 50, 2nd tier 2.7% @ 57.
MEDICAL /DENTAL/VISION INSURANCE: The County participates in the CalPERS health insurance program, providing several options for employees; the County pays all or nearly all of the employee premium (depending upon plan chosen) and a portion of dependent coverage. The County also provides a dental and vision plan with premium for the employee and family paid in full by the County.
VACATION: Full-time employees earn 12 days per year (one day after one month of employment); three weeks after three years; four weeks after ten years; five weeks after fifteen years; and six weeks after twenty years. Part-time employees earn vacation on a pro-rated basis.
HOLIDAYS: 16 paid days per year (includes 3 personal holidays).
SICK LEAVE: Employees earn 12 days per year (unlimited accumulation).
SPECIAL LEAVES: Leaves of absence with pay for illness or death in the employees' immediate family may be approved.
LIFE INSURANCE: $5,000 in life insurance paid by County with employee option to purchase up to $500,000.
LONGEVITY: 2½ % salary increase upon completion of 5 years of active service in a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement capacity. Additional 2½ % salary increase upon completion of 10 years of active service in a P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement capacity.
EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE PAY: Additional pay for obtaining P.O.S.T. certification above and beyond that required by job class. 6% salary increase for obtaining a P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate and an additional 6% salary increase for obtaining a P.O.S.T. Advanced Certificate (12% for both).
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT PAY: Additional 5% salary increase (Field Training Officer, Rotational Criminal Investigations Division, and Bomb Squad).
EDUCATION EXPENSES: The County offers an educational reimbursement program for tuition fees and the cost of books (up to a maximum per year) for job related courses.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION: A voluntary employee paid deferred compensation plan is available.
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: County paid counseling services provided for employee and dependents.
CORRECTIONAL DEPUTY
Job Incentives
The Humboldt County Correctional Facility offers a variety of special teams and positions to employees wanting to grow their skills.
- $9,000 Hiring Bonus for Correctional Deputy II Lateral Hires.
