Auditor-Controller


The Office of the Auditor-Controller is a central service department providing a broad range of accounting and financial support to the operations of Humboldt County departments, special districts, and other partnering agencies. The Auditor-Controller is an elected official who performs duties under the legal authority prescribed in the California Government Code.


Responsibilities


  • Accounts for property tax monies
  • Apportions and distributes to the various entities the property tax monies collected by the Tax Collector
  • Audits and issues payroll checks
  • Audits and processes claims for payment
  • Computes rates for school bonds
  • Computes the amount of taxes due
  • Issues receipts for all monies received by the county
  • Prepares financial reports
  • Records the financial transactions of the county and other related agencies
  • Serves as chief accounting officer in the county
