Construction Engineering

Construction Engineering is responsible for the oversight of all construction projects for the Division as well as for any construction engineering consultants.

Construction will review bid documents and recommend contractors to the Board of Supervisors for contract approval.  Typically, engineering technicians (assistant resident engineers) are assigned to various construction projects late in the design phase and then work closely with the contractors to complete the project.  The assistant resident engineers are under the supervision of the head of the Construction Section and are responsible for seeing that all contracting forms, documents, payments, as-built drawings and project closeout is completed.

Construction Engineering also oversees the Department’s Materials Lab, which tests materials that are used in the construction and/or renovation of roadway.  The Materials Lab is certified by Caltrans and can perform most Caltrans tests.  The Materials Lab can perform materials testing for other jurisdictions and private individuals on a limited basis.
