Children's Behavioral Health Services

Purpose
The Children and Family Services Program provides assessment, therapy, case management, psychological services and medication services.

Services
Services are provided in collaboration with Child Welfare Services, Public Health, the Probation Department, and community organizational providers.

Services include:

• Assessment, treatment, medication support and case management for children, youth and families.
• The Northern California Regional Facility’s New Horizons Treatment Program is an 18-bed locked residential facility that provides mental health services as part of an integrated program for adjudicated youth in the juvenile probation system. Aggression Replacement Training (ART), a research-based skill training system presented in group format, is the centerpiece of the treatment program. Residents also receive individual and family therapy, case management and medication support. Residents and their families also participate in Family Team Meetings. Aftercare treatment services are available to the youth and families with the same therapists and case managers they worked with during the in-custody portion of the program.
• Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an evidence-based brief family therapy model provided to adolescents, 11 to 18, and their families (including younger siblings) exhibiting, delinquency, violence, substance abuse and family conflict. Sessions are most often provided in the family home but can also be provided in other community settings or in the Children’s Outpatient Clinic.
• Healthy Alternatives is a court-ordered treatment program for youth in the juvenile justice system with mental health needs. Youth receive more frequent court reviews, FFT and intensive probation case management and supervision.
• Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Services provide screening, treatment, and referral services for Transition-Age Youth (TAY) ages 16-26 years.
• Organizational and Fee for Service Providers, located throughout the community, including schools, offer individual counseling services and case management services for children who are Medi-Cal beneficiaries.
• Therapeutic Behavioral Services are contracted Medi-Cal mental health specialty services for children and youth who meet strict eligibility criteria while receiving other mental health services.
