What is Vote-by-Mail?

In Humboldt County, voters have the option of (1) voting at the polls on Election Day, or (2) completing a Vote-by-Mail ballot. A few weeks before an election the Office of Elections mails ballots materials to Vote-by-Mail voters. Voters complete their ballot at their leisure and can return their voted ballot any one of the following ways: (1) mail, (2) hand-delivery to our office, or (3) hand-delivery to any polling place on Election Day. For mailed ballots, the return envelope must be postmarked by Election Day and be delivered no later than three days after Election Day.
Voters can request to be a permanent Vote-by-Mail voter and always receive a ballot in the mail. Voters can also request to Vote-by-Mail for one-election only.
