Meet Eele, a licensed therapy dog, and her human, Joan. Read to Eele, tell her a story, or just give her belly a rub. Reading to a dog is a low-pressure way for children to practice their reading skills, and fun besides! A parent or legal guardian must sign a permission form before children read with Eele. Stop by the desk in the children's room to complete the form and sign up for a turn with Eele.

Families and young children are invited to attend the Baby Sign Workshop together to learn and play. This month the theme is 'Playtime Signs', and includes signs to share with friends and family while playing together. Sign language is a fine way to start communicating with your baby even before baby can talk. The workshop includes time for individual and small group practice on signs, based on participants' needs.

The Humboldt County Children's Author Festival brings well-known, published authors to Humboldt County, where they visit schools to talk with students about books and the business and craft of writing, and promote the exciting idea that people create books and that children can write, as well as read. This year, 25 authors and illustrators will come from throughout California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and even more states. They will travel to nearly 60 Humboldt County schools, talk about themselves and their work to thousands of school children. Today, meet all the authors and see their books at a public autographing session and book sale here in the Eureka Main Library.
