Apocalyptic Planet is a field guide to the ever-ending earth, or to the future of the earth, depending on which subtitle is on the cover of the copy you read. A Star Wars movie in which spies steal the plans for the Death Star and take on the forces of evil, featuring the brave heroine Jyn Erso (played as an adult by Felicity Jones), her steady, valiant pilot Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), and enforcer droid K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk), who provides much of the film's humor. Darth Vader shows his grimmest, most fearsome, ruthless and violent aspect in this film, which is described as more adult in its outlook than others, with a message about how easy it is to go wrong when trying to do good. The film is praised for its diversity of characters, high interest, well-written story, and the wonderful performance by Felicity Jones.

Tammy Durston will talk about her new book, Northern California’s Lost Coast. One of the last undeveloped stretches of the California coastline, with mountains that rise thousands of feet from the sea, the Lost Coast is the only significant stretch of California without a highway. This secluded landscape was once home to the Coast Yuki, Sinkyone, Mattole, and Wiyot tribes. After a period of industrial development in the mid-1800s, it was left to return to nature and is now protected as the Sinkyone Wilderness. During the 1800s, the Lost Coast bustled with logging settlements and mill towns, though only remnants of their existence remain. From Westport north to Ferndale, this book showcases historical photographs from libraries, historical societies, and local residents. Join Tammy Durston for a history in pictures of the famed Lost Coast.
