Office of Client & Cultural Diversity (OCCD)

Purpose
The purpose of the Office of Client and Cultural Diversity (OCCD) is to strengthen the Department of Health and Human Services’ ability to provide client, family, and community-driven, culturally and linguistically competent services to Humboldt County’s diverse population, guided by the values of wellness, recovery, inclusion, respect, and equality.

The OCCD collaborates with DHHS Mental Health, Public Health and Social Services to promote client/family/community-driven and culturally appropriate attitudes and practices.

Responsibilities
The OCCD’s work:
  • Solicit advice, consultation from the Client and Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee (CCDAC) regarding client and cultural issues
  • Meet with employees and community members about client and cultural issues
  • Collaborate to develop client and cultural competency assessment and measurement tools
  • Collaborate to develop client and cultural competency training
  • Consult with Mental Health, Public Health and Social Services on providing client-driven and culturally competent services
  • Work with teams to address workforce diversity
  • Collaborate to increase language capacity.

Goals
The OCCD and CCDAC goals:
  • Assess and improve upon cultural appropriateness of services and client/family/community driven attitudes and practices
  • Recruit and retain a diverse workforce
  • Continuously learn and educate about cultural issues and social justice
  • Achieve language capacity
  • Involve clients, family, and community partners in decisions.
