Checkout & Renewal Policies

Below are the most asked-about library check-out and renewal policies. 
Library Cards

Library cards are free of charge to Humboldt County residents with a permanent local address. 

There is a $4.00 fee to replace a lost card.  Visitors may place a deposit for a temporary card.

Borrowing Limits

Books: No limit, 28 days.
  (With certain exceptions.)

VHS videos: no limit, 7 days

4 DVDs  for 7 days

10 music CDs for 7 days

2 language kits for 14 days

4 audiobooks on CD for 14 days.

From the Main Library's collection, no limit on books on tape for 14 days
Renewing Books and AV Materials

Your library card is required to renew materials.

You may renew your items by telephone by calling the library's circulation desk at 707-269-1915.

You can renew items online by using the “View Your Record” function in the library catalog.

Books may be renewed twice and audio-visual materials may be renewed once. However, if someone else is waiting for an item and has placed a hold on it, that item will not be renewed.
