Responsibilities


The Humboldt County Planning and Building Department is responsible for protecting public health, safety, and welfare. The department achieves this through building permit review and inspections consistent with California model codes as well as planning and development review and approval consistent with the county's General Plan.  The department also provides administrative and development assistance services.

Divisions


The Planning and Building Department consists of the following divisions:

New Fees In Effect December 5, 2016

On October 4, 2016 the Board of Supervisors adopted a new schedule of fees for all county departments.  The new fees for the Planning and Building Department went into effect on December 5, 2016.  Be advised that the minimum deposit collected for cannabis projects has increased due to the adoption of a 50% overhead fee.  More information on cannabis permit application deposits can be found here.



Important Inspection Notice:


Due to limited staff availability, inspection days in outlying areas of Humboldt County have been reduced.  In the interim, please refer to this schedule to determine the weekdays your inspections can be scheduled. Please contact the Building Inspection Division at 707-445-7245 for more information.

Cannabis and Planning Permit Application Hours

Due to the current high volume, commercial cannabis and planning permit applications are accepted between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  Applications will not be accepted after 4:00 PM.
